The Philips Cinema 21:9 television frame, the world’s first cinema proportion TV, has been launched with “Carousel”, a short film and interactive web site developed at Tribal DDB Amsterdam and Stink Digital. Stink Digital director Adam Berg came up with the idea for an epic “frozen moment” cops and robbers shootout sequence that included clowns, explosions, a decimated hospital, and plenty of broken glass, bullet casings and money.

Carousel, the centrepiece of the Cinema project, clocks in at a (totally coincidental) two minutes and 19 seconds, but Berg conceived it to work as an endless loop. Visitors to the microsite, www.cinema.philips.com, therefore have the option to ‘spin’ through the film’s single take shot repeatedly, to stop on a specific frame, or to watch it at the preordained speed. The film also contains embedded hotspots, which, when triggered, transport the viewer seamlessly from the heavily posted film to a behind-the-scenes version of the same shot. This constant moving between two layers of reality proved one of the project’s biggest and most ambitious production challenges. Viewers are able to choose between 21:9 and 16:9, turn Ambilight on and off, and “scrub” the film. The microsite’s loader doubles as a credit sequence. Rich media takeover banners drive traffic to the site by teasing viewers with an original Carousel trailer.

In an ordinary barn, of a quiet small town, a little girl will be faced with an extraordinary event… “Meet Meline” tells the story of a young girl who spends much of her time playing in a dusty old wooden out-shed at her grandparents home.

One day, whilst in the midst of her favourite past time of drawing, Méline suddenly finds herself face to face with an unknown furry creature. This short animated film follows a petite heroine called Méline as she makes a discovery of a lifetime …

“Meet Méline” is the brainchild and loving creation of 3D artists and creative directors Virginie Goyons and Sebastien Laban.

Initially the idea behind the project was to produce a 20 second clip that would provide a platform on which the two artists could develop and perfect their skills ….. two years later the piece has developed into a short animated film.

Goyons and Laban have recently completed a teaser trailer that gives a clear view of the character of Méline but keeps details of the plotline under wraps ….. ensuring we are intrigued to see more.
“Meet Méline” The Short Film and “Meet Méline” The Making of : are both due for release in 2009.

The making of “Meet Méline” has also lead to the production of a hard backed book and some beautiful, emotive poster artwork.

The New Thinking promo, directed and designed by Borge, is a dazzling trip through a mechanized world. It begins with an anticipatory countdown that propels us into an expertly crafted machine as it processes a continual stream of feedback. Words like “quality”, “focus” and “reliability” are fed through this fantastical apparatus and piped into the Avid brain trust where a surge of creativity and forward thinking is unleashed.

Says Borge, “The message we wanted to convey was a simple one; Avid is listening. It’s an industry leader when it comes to video editing and its customers are incredibly loyal. The New Thinking campaign represents the company’s response to years of quality feedback.”

New Thinking, which debuted recently at the Avid trade show in New York, is prominently featured on their website and in a series of eye catching new print ads. The uniquely designed and animated promo has won a slew of coveted Telly’s including: Best Show Opening, Best Animation, Best Art Direction, Best Graphics and a Bronze for Best Live Events.
