DUCK & White Rhino Score Tellys For Avid

Director/Animator Richard Borge of LA-based production studio DUCK helms an award winning new project for the iconic editorial brand Avid via Boston’s White Rhino agency in advance of its revolutionary series of new products.

The New Thinking promo, directed and designed by Borge, is a dazzling trip through a mechanized world. It begins with an anticipatory countdown that propels us into an expertly crafted machine as it processes a continual stream of feedback. Words like “quality”, “focus” and “reliability” are fed through this fantastical apparatus and piped into the Avid brain trust where a surge of creativity and forward thinking is unleashed.

Says Borge, “The message we wanted to convey was a simple one; Avid is listening. It’s an industry leader when it comes to video editing and its customers are incredibly loyal. The New Thinking campaign represents the company’s response to years of quality feedback.”

New Thinking, which debuted recently at the Avid trade show in New York, is prominently featured on their website and in a series of eye catching new print ads. The uniquely designed and animated promo has won a slew of coveted Telly’s including: Best Show Opening, Best Animation, Best Art Direction, Best Graphics and a Bronze for Best Live Events.

DUCK Visits The United States of Tara

Director Jamie Caliri of Los Angeles-based DUCK designs and directs the opening title sequence to Oscar award winning screenwriter Diablo Cody’s debut Showtime series United States of Tara executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

Crafting a unique and memorable opening that unfolds and expands like a dazzling 3D pop-up book, Caliri seamlessly guides us through the many personas of Toni Collette’s character Tara, a single mother with multiple personality disorder.

Caliri comments on the team effort, “They wanted a pop-up book look. We decided to try to make as many real pop-up pages as possible and only cheat when we needed. I think it ended up being a fun mix of pop-up and animation. Alex Juhausz really nailed a great Americana/comic book feel with his illustrations and Anthony Scott brought his usual sensitivity to the animation. The team really pulled together on this one and I think it shows. We had fun.”

“We’ve always been a company that disregards preconceived assumptions and attempts new concepts that might seem unthinkable to others. We’re continually upping the bar of creativity, and this title sequence is a perfect example of the blending of DUCK’s originality and appropriateness,” said Executive Producer Mark Medernach. “I am honored to have been able to work on such a fun and interesting effort and the end result is a pop-up masterpiece.”

DUCK Designs Titles for Madagascar : Escape 2 Africa

Director/Animator Jamie Caliri of LA-based production studio DUCK recently designed and animated the 02:18 title sequence for the highly anticipated feature film Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, which opened nationwide November 2008 and features the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock and Alec Baldwin. I Like to Move It, one of four songs from the film’s soundtrack created by Will.I.Am of Black Eyed Peas, moves the action along while the film’s whimsical characters shamelessly provide their modern dance interpretations.

Each film credit beckons a change in tribal-inspired backdrop and hilarious performance. The animation exhibits an almost 3D appeal, consequently engaging the audience.

Other recent standout work by DUCK includes highly acclaimed efforts for United Airlines, POMx, COX Cable, and opening titles for the short film TreKant directed by DUCK’s most recent addition, Kompost.
